When we arrived at Douthitt High School as freshmen, the buildings in our school showed the signs of their 40 years of age. It might be hard to think back to that time when there was a landscaped yard in front of the cafeteria instead of a concrete courtyard, and when the grassy knoll our students enjoy on a rare sunny day didn't exist. After a few noisy years of construction, we now have a modern school. In our time here, it has gone through a complete change from old and mature, to fresh and new. We, on the other hand, have gone from being fresh and new high school students, to old, experienced, mature young adults ready to graduate. We've had many great people build us up to what we are. First and foremost, we should thank our parents for their example, wisdom and support. And although they may pretend to be sad that our high school years are over and that many of us will be going off to live on our own for the first time, don't worry. They're already secretly plotting how to redecorate our rooms. Of course, we've had many inspirational and influential teachers touch us, too. From our days of Info Tech and Freshman English to Government and Washington State, our teachers have been there for us, to lead us toward knowledge. We've had teachers who have pushed us to our academic limits with their rigorous curriculums, teachers who made us laugh every day, and teachers who have shown us support and dedication. We've sat in class as drool formed at the corners of our mouths, either because of a jaw-dropping lecture or a sleep-inducing video, but either way, we will greatly benefit from the things we've learned here. We won't forget the events that shaped our high school experience, either. We've rooted on sports teams at sta... ...o experiencing only peaks! I want my life to be one never ending ascension!" What I’m trying to get at is, that we really brought this upon ourselves whether we like it or not. It’s not something that will easily go away, and to be honest I don’t think it ever will. When I go to the Jewel Osco in my town once again I repeat what I say above, the service is slow and un-pleasant. When I visit the next town over, completely the opposite. So I am convinced my town is cursed haha. Predictability: No matter where you go you will receive the same service. The workers jobs are repetitive, highly routine, and predictable. While this is true I ask you to revisit the statement above. While I’m on this subject I will also touch upon something else. When you visit a KFC, or Popeye’s Chicken, Wendy’s, Burger King, or any other chain fast food place you will usually get the same recipe for that burger no matter where you go. Usually it will taste the same no matter what part of the world you actually purchase it from. Most of the time this is true, with few exceptions. There is absolutely no creative freedom for a grill operator at these places, if the cook wanted to create a â€Å"special† there’s no way that would happen. If you work at one of these places you are a slave to your position without creative liberties to stray from the beaten path. If you find something wrong with your burger or chicken and you make a fuss about it. They always give you a new one, and then send you coupons! Is that a bad thing? Social support can be offered at work or from non-work sources such as the members of ones family and friends. Women of Early Canada essays The female immigrants of New France were categorized into two groups. The first group were the religious figures that came to enhance the religious aspects of new settlers. These women began to arrive in 1639 and continued on into the 18th century. The second group were the devotes and the filles du roi, brought over to marry the settlers and increase the population of the newly developing nation. They arrived in New France between 1663 to 1673. The lives of these women differed greatly to that of the women in the old country. It is said that the women in New France had many privileges that didn't exist in Old France. Jan Noel's article, "New France: Les Femmes Favorisees" and Jacques Mathieu's article, "New France: The French in North America, XVI-XVIIITH Century," discuss the role of women in New France and how privileged their lives were. "Many a man, observing the women of New France, was struck by the advantages they possessed in education, cultivation and that quality called esprit or wit."1 Historians have found documents that describe the way women in New France were seen by men of Old France. "A young woman had lost her understanding and reason because she had given herself for reading and writing, and written many books," Winthrop said, "If she had kept her place and had attended to household affairs, or such things as belongs to women; and not gone out of her way, and calling to meddle in such things as are proper for men, whose minds are stronger, etc., she had kept her wits, and might have improved them usefully and honourably in the place God had sent her."2 This quote found in John Withrop's journal, often is used to encapsulate the male attitude toward women in New France.
